Pine tar is produced from the dry distillation of wood. It contains a variety of phenols and as a result has antiseptic properties. It is oxidised with oxygen contained in tissues, thus weakening the life processes in cells (antimitotic effect). Keratoplastic properties of pine tar are used in treating keratosis disorders due to accelerated epidermal growth. Pine tar has also degreasing and anti-pruritic properties. Biosulphur regulates sebaceous gland function, thus reducing sebum production, improving keratoplastic effects, and also keratolytic effects in higher concentrations. It is recommended for use as an add-on therapy for dogs treated for skin infections caused by dermatophytes and Malassezia yeasts. Lanolin is a natural moisturising agent. It replenishes lipid content and restores the appropriate water and lipid balance.
