The Picasso Triggerfish (Rhinecanthus aculeatus) is a captivating and highly intelligent fish, prized for its unique, artistic patterns and robust personality.

This large specimen, also known as the Lagoon Triggerfish, is a stunning centerpiece with a tan or white body covered in a vibrant, complex design of black, blue, and yellow stripes. Known for its character and interactive behavior, the Picasso Triggerfish often learns to recognize its owner. A large adult can reach up to 12 inches (30 cm) in length.

• Distinctive Coloration: Its body has a "wacky, painted appearance" with a bold black band running from its eyes to its pectoral fin. Its intricate stripes and bands give it the look of an artist's palette.

• Temperament: This species is highly aggressive and territorial, especially as it matures. It should not be kept with other triggerfish or with other small fish. It is best housed in a fish-only or fish-only-with-live-rock (FOWLR) aquarium with other large, semi-aggressive tank mates.

• Reef Compatibility: Not suitable for reef aquariums. It will attack and consume all manner of invertebrate life and may damage corals.

• Diet: A carnivore that requires a varied diet of meaty foods such as shrimp, squid, mussels, and krill. Providing hard-shelled foods is essential to help wear down its continuously growing teeth.

• Care Level: Moderate. It is a hardy fish but requires a well-maintained environment.

• Aquarium Requirements: Due to its active nature and large adult size, a minimum tank of 120-125 gallons is required. The tank should be equipped with plenty of rocks and caves for the fish to establish a territory. A secure lid is essential, as they are known jumpers.
